Die ‚Moby Dick‘-Filmversion von 1956 habe ich das erste Mal als Kind zusammen mit meinem Vater gesehen und seitdem liebe ich diesen Film. Besonders Orson Welles als Father Mapple blieb mir im Gedächtnis. Für einen Freund malte ich eine kleine Portraitstudie von Gregory Peck als Captain Ahab und hatte die Idee für diese Komposition, die ich gleich danach zügig umsetzte. Kann man wohl eine persönliche Arbeit nennen.

I saw the 1956 film ‚Moby Dick‘ the first time with my Dad when I was a kid and have loved it ever since. Especially Orson Welles‘ scene as Father Mapple stuck with me. I did a small portrait study of Gregory Peck as Captain Ahab and had the idea of this composition. So I painted this larger piece quite quickly after that and still like it a lot. You can call that a personal work.
